General Questions​

What is RenderDoc?​

RenderDoc is a document generation platform that allows you to create PDF and Excel documents from templates via API. Design templates visually, then generate personalized documents programmatically for invoices, reports, certificates, contracts, and more.

How is RenderDoc different from other document services?​

RenderDoc's key differentiator is simplicity and power combined. Create document templates using a visual drag-and-drop editor, then generate PDFs and Excel files with a single API call. No complex PDF libraries to learn, no HTML-to-PDF conversion hassles.

Is there a free tier?​

Yes! You get 50 free documents per month when you sign up - no credit card required. This includes:

  • Full API access
  • 2 templates
  • PDF and Excel generation
  • Basic analytics

Perfect for testing and getting started. Note: Free tier documents are watermarked.

How does pricing work?​

Do unused documents roll over?​

No, monthly quota resets each billing cycle. However, you can purchase credit packs that never expire.

Is there a pay-as-you-go option?​

Yes! You can purchase credit packs for additional documents beyond your monthly quota:

  • Micro: 100 docs for $10
  • Small: 500 docs for $40
  • Medium: 1,000 docs for $70
  • Large: 2,500 docs for $150

Credits never expire and are used after your monthly quota is exhausted.

What payment methods do you accept?​

We accept via Lemon Squeezy (our payment provider):

  • Credit cards (Visa, Mastercard, American Express)
  • Debit cards
  • PayPal
  • And other regional payment methods

Do you offer refunds?​

All purchases are final. Subscription fees are non-refundable. See our Refund Policy for full details.

Technical Questions​

What's the API rate limit?​

API rate limits are based on authentication type, not subscription plan:

  • Document generation: 100 requests/minute (API Key)
  • Batch generation: 10 requests/minute
  • Query endpoints: 300 requests/minute

What formats can I generate?​

RenderDoc supports:

  • PDF - Professional documents, invoices, reports, certificates
  • Excel (XLSX) - Spreadsheets, data exports, financial reports

How long are generated documents stored?​

Generated documents are available for download for:

  • Free: 1 day
  • Starter: 3 days
  • Growth: 7 days
  • Scale: 30 days

You can also download documents immediately via the API response.

What's the maximum file size?​

Generated documents can be up to:

  • PDF: 50MB
  • Excel: 25MB

These limits are generous for typical business documents.

Templates & Design​

How many templates can I create?​

Unlimited templates - there's no limit on the number of templates you can create on any plan.

Can I import existing templates?​

The template designer uses a JSON-based format. You can:

  • Create templates from scratch with the visual designer
  • Import JSON template definitions
  • Use AI to generate templates from descriptions

Can I preview templates before generating?​

Yes! You can preview:

  • PDF output with sample data
  • Excel output with sample data
  • Variable substitution in real-time

Use the Preview button in the template editor.

API & Integration​

Do you have an API?​

Yes! RenderDoc has a comprehensive REST API for:

  • Generating documents
  • Managing templates
  • Batch document generation
  • Viewing generation logs and analytics

Are there SDKs available?​

Official SDKs are available for:

Do you support webhooks?​

Yes! Configure webhooks to receive notifications when:

  • Document generation completes
  • Document generation fails
  • Batch processing completes

Security & Privacy​

Is my data secure?​

Yes! We take security seriously:

  • Transport Security: TLS for all connections
  • Credential Security: bcrypt hashing for passwords and API keys
  • Authentication: JWT tokens, API keys with permissions
  • Infrastructure: Encryption at rest for all storage
  • Compliance: GDPR ready (data export, deletion, retention features)
  • Backups: Daily automated backups

Do you store generated documents?​

Generated documents are stored temporarily for download (1-30 days depending on plan). After the retention period, documents are automatically deleted.

We do NOT:

  • Share your data with third parties
  • Use your data for training
  • Store data beyond the retention period

Is RenderDoc GDPR compliant?​

Yes! We are fully GDPR compliant:

  • Data processing agreements available
  • Right to data export
  • Right to deletion
  • EU data residency available on request

Can I delete my data?​

Yes! You can:

  • Delete individual documents or templates
  • Export all your data (JSON format)
  • Delete your entire account

Go to Settings → Account → Delete Account.
